The Information Center is the hub of the school where students and staff have ever-expanding print and non-print media resources and a wide array of changing technologies to support and enhance both the curriculum and access to global information.

The Information Center is open from 8:15 to 4:00 including at lunch times.  A total of three items can be checked out at any one time.  Books are due back in two weeks; magazines and reference materials in three days.  All students are given a briefing at the beginning of the year and research lessons are taught throughout the year.

A computer lab is also available to students with a variety of programs and Internet connectivity. To use the Internet students must have a signed permission slip from parents. The use of all computers is for school-related projects only.

An important part of the library program is the Scholastic Reading Counts where students accumulate points as they read and take quizzes. Every month there are celebrations to reward student progress.

Making the Right Choices

When you use the computers on the school network you must always remember that you have agreed to use DoDEA’s computer services “only in support of my education”. What does that mean? It means that you are responsible for making the right choices

When using the Internet you are responsible for only going to sites which have an educational purpose – i.e. a class assignment. Going to inappropriate sites will result in losing your computer privileges at school and possibly disciplinary action. What should you do if you are searching for a site and an inappropriate one comes up?

Show a teacher so he/she make a note of the URL so the site can be blocked. If you do not inform a teacher and your “history” is checked you could be in trouble.
Remember: game sites, personal email, chat rooms, & shopping are also off limits on school computers.

Do’s & Don’ts of Computer Use

DO
--memorize your password

--always check floppy disks and USB sticks for viruses before taking them back and forth from home

DON'T
--forget your log-in

--play non-educational games

--print directly from the Internet – save text to a Word document

--listen to music online

--bring food or drink near a computer
